Once Upon a Time in America Case Study

1 comment:

  1. 1) When evaluating the use of God Bless America you say the song was about “how great the country was and shows that there was a very patriarchy society at that time”. Could you revise, I think you mean “ patriotic” and in this case Sergio Leone is having a dig at American Patriotism because the action in the opening of the film contradicts the notion of the American Dream! You can Google “the American Dream “ to see what this actually means, particularly for immigrant communities in American.

    2) You say it’s “Queens American”. This makes no sense at all, could you delete because I’m not sure what you mean. In your final slide you do make the contrast between an idea and the reality of life in America clearer.

    3) On your final slide you say: ..

....” After the confronting with Eve it changing to Noodles 1n a opium den. Here we see sound-bridges used, in this case it is the phone ringing that link to noodles flashbacks and backto the current day”.... …

This doesn’t make sense Louis. Instead you need to say something like….” The use of a sound bridge in the transition to Noodles in an opium den adds a further layer of corruption which is a convention of the thriller genre. The use of the sound bridge of a phone persistently ringing indicates a flash back to earlier in the evening when Noodles witnesses his friends being zipped up into body bags”.

    4) Check for careless English Louis and check sentence structure before uploading analysis onto your blog. Also endeavour to do some independent research into films wich are the subject of your case studies.

Indicating a satisfactory understanding of aspects of the genre, particularly costume and lighting. You have identified the sound bridge but needed to explain that it's purpose is to link past events to real time, whilst also heightening suspense.
